This is a post about making posts~

So you got through all of that, the email verification and the profile making and maybe you even uploaded a nice little avatar for yourself! You’ve got a great start on this blogging thing already!

There are a lot of things the WordPress format can be used for, not ju

st writing long posts. For example, publishing images!

A half decent photo of PLC on the UO campus.

Even a rectangular behemoth like PLC can look kind of pretty in the summer with bamboo and a pretty sky.

Like this very nice photo of PLC here on campus I took a few years ago. This was, of course, before the renovations–or whatever it is they’re doing to it these days.

Other things you can add include links, of courseĀ , videos (though you will have to upload them elsewhere and link them to the blog, such as via Youtube’s or Vimeo’s embedding function, or on the University servers, which Streaming Media can assist you with), and your own generated content.

Furthermore, you are not restricted to your own blog! With a WordPress account, commenting on posts on other WordPress accounts while identifying yourself is now easier than ever! Have a thought or three on a colleague’s post on Technological Pedagogy? Write it up and post it, easy and simple as that.

You can also choose a theme that works for your subject matter. For example, if you tend to post a lot of pictures to your blog, a theme with a focus on images may be more useful than a minimal theme. Conversely, if you like to post long text-heavy posts instead, a minimalist theme, to make reading on your blog easier, may be best. You can preview themes before you apply to get a sense of what they will look like. And you can change your blog’s theme at any time.

And always, if you have any questions, be sure to ask!
